We are happy to inform you about the Tenth International Conference on Evolutionary Multi-Criterion Optimization (EMO-2019), which will take place at the Kellogg Hotel and Conference Center at Michigan State University, East Lansing, March 10-13, 2019. We would like to invite you to consider participation, and the opportunity to co-sponsor and participate more prominently.

The EMO Conference series was started in 2001 in Zurich, Switzerland, by a handful of EMO researchers with the vision of promoting and disseminating research and its application to solving multi-criterion optimization problems encountered in practice. The EMO conference has been organized biennially ever since—nine times across four continents.

The BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action, one of the U.S. National Science Foundation’s twelve Science and Technology Centers, together with the Computational Optimization and Innovation (COIN) Laboratory, also at Michigan State University, are in the forefront of research and applications in the EMO area. Many commercial optimization software packages have adopted EMO algorithms (such as NSGA-II and NSGA-III) developed by MSU faculty members and researchers. Companies have taken advantage of EMO-related software and publicly available EMO methodologies to solve many of their problems, as most problems in practice must ideally be formulated with multiple conflicting criteria. EMO conferences focus on the most recent two years of developments in the field, inspiring and defining the research and applications for the coming two years. In view of all the developments that are arising in practice, we are pleased to be organizing the tenth edition of this conference. We are hosting it at Michigan State University, bringing the conference to the USA for the first time.

EMO-2019 promises to bring together top researchers and practitioners from around the globe to MSU for an invigorating four-day event with keynote speeches, tutorials, oral and poster sessions, industry events, and more. We plan to bring a greater number of industry participants to the conference, to the mutual benefit of researchers and industry representatives, for a number of reasons: (i) to increase their awareness of the latest developments in EMO, (ii) to enable them to interact with top researchers in the field for possible collaboration, (iii) to share their research and applications with other participants through oral and poster presentations, (iv) to set-up booths to demonstrate and disseminate their past and recent activities in the area, and (v) to arrange interviews with potential Ph.D. students and post-doctoral researchers.

Although we are about a year away from the conference dates, we are already actively planning the conference. At this time, we are exploring possible sponsors for the conference. Springer has already agreed to publish the proceedings of the conference and has pledged to provide 1,000 USD towards the conference’s Best Paper Awards.

We are sure that EMO-2019 will be productive and informative for the participants. Should your organization choose to support the conference, we would be happy to include its logo in all of our media, including the proceedings, website and conference banners, and also to make a few free registrations available to your organization. If you are interested, a booth at the conference site can also be arranged.

Kindly contact the general conference chairs (goodman@egr.msu.eduor 517-355-6453, kdeb@egr.msu.eduor 517-930-0846) for any further details.
